THE NEW YEAR PROGRAM IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT SINCE DOUZ

December 31: From Douz to Ksar Ghilane

Morning:

Departure from Douz towards Ksar Ghilane, crossing the magnificent desert landscapes.

Arrival:

Arrival at the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, followed by a delicious lunch in a restaurant at the foot of the dunes.
Free time to explore the oasis.

Optional Activities:

Swimming in the natural hot spring.
Quad ride through the dunes (additional cost of €30/hour).
Camel ride (additional cost of €15/hour).

Evening:

Travel by 4x4 to a Saharan camp.
Participate in a traditional demonstration of bread baking in the sand.
Special festive dinner to celebrate New Year's Eve.
Overnight in a private tent in the heart of the desert.

January 1: From Ksar Ghilane to Douz via Matmata

Morning:

Breakfast at the camp, followed by a relaxing time in the desert.

Tour:

Departure for an excursion to Matmata to discover the famous troglodyte houses.

Lunch:

Typical lunch with locals in the Berber village of Tamezret.

Return:

Return to Douz.
End of the excursion and drop-off at participants' accommodation.

New Year's Eve Program:

Performances by a folkloric group C
Camel fantasia.

Dinner in the Restaurant with Entertainment:

The tour is done either in 4X4 .

Our vehicles can be equipped with baby seats on request.

This tour is not open to people with reduced mobility.

No telephone network in the desert.

Take away:

Concerning the equipment, you must bring a bag (it is better for the sand).

Your change for the duration of the excursion, a flashlight or headlamp, as well as towels (not provided at the Saharan camp).

For the evening, bring warm clothes as it can be very cold in winter.

If you are cold, for the camp we recommend sports tracksuits for sleeping and if you need to go out at night.

Blankets, pillows and sheets are provided at the camp.

Pair of sunglasses.
Scarf or scarf for the quad.
Swimwear.
Camera.
Some cash for your personal expenses.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW YEAR IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT

Your exceptional New Year's Eve celebration will begin with a pickup at 7:30 AM from your accommodation in Djerba, followed by a fascinating journey through the Berber region to the desert at Ksar Ghilane.

During the trip, you will be captivated by the semi-desert landscapes of the Berber region, with photo stops to capture the exceptional scenery.

Your first stop will be the exploration of Ksar Ouled Soltane, an Arab Ksar that served as a backdrop for some scenes of Star Wars. After a 40-minute guided tour of the picturesque Berber village of Chenini, you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Guermassa.

Your journey will continue towards the desert, to the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, where the rocky landscape will gradually become an ochre sand desert (Erg).

At Ksar Ghilane, you will have the opportunity to participate in various activities:

Swim in the 32°C hot spring (Free).
Ride a camel for €15/hour.
Take a quad tour to the ancient Roman fort of Tisavar for €30/hour.

These activities can be paid for directly on site.

Then, you will travel by 4x4 to the comfortable Saharan camp located about 20 km due south, to watch the sunset over the dunes, see a demonstration of bread baking in the sand, and spend New Year's Eve in the desert.

The evening will include:

An open bar around the campfire, with Tunisian drinks, non-alcoholic beverages, and appetizers.
Folk entertainment and a camel fantasia.
A New Year's Eve dinner served in the restaurant with additional entertainment: a folk group and a DJ to set the mood.

The meal will consist of a variety of dishes, such as:

Appetizers (kemia).
Seafood soup.
Salad plates.
Lamb gargoulette (lamb cooked with vegetables in a sealed jar).
Seasonal fruit salad.
Tunisian pastries and mint tea.

You will also have access to the bar, with red, rosé, or white wines, water, and sodas available at will.

At midnight, a traditional champagne toast will be served to celebrate the New Year.

You will spend the first night of the new year in your private tent, continuing to enjoy the desert atmosphere.

The first day of the year will begin with a peaceful breakfast in the desert, followed by a trip to Matmata, famous for its troglodyte houses and Star Wars settings.

Lunch with locals in Tamezret will offer you an authentic experience before returning to Djerba in the late afternoon, thus concluding two days of adventure, discovery, and an unforgettable New Year's Eve in the Tunisian desert.

This program is also offered over 3 days with an additional night in the desert.
