SOUTHERN TUNISIA 3-DAY TRIP – DEPARTURE FROM TOZEUR

Day 1 – Mountain oases and desert gateways
 

• Pickup at 7:30 AM from your accommodation in Tozeur.
   

• Depart for a scenic day exploring the famous mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and the spectacular Mides canyon near the Algerian border.
   

• Lunch in a local restaurant in Tamerza.
   

• Afternoon visits to Ong Jmal ("Camel's Neck") and Nefta, renowned for its lush palm grove and desert architecture.
   

• Return to Tozeur in the evening.
   

• Dinner and overnight stay at the 4-star Ksar Rouge hotel (or similar), or in a charming local guesthouse (based on double occupancy).

Day 2 – Chott El Jerid, Douz & Ksar Ghilane
 

• Breakfast and departure toward Chott El Jerid, Tunisia’s vast and shimmering salt lake.
   

• Stop at the Sidi Bouhlel canyon, also known as "Star Wars Canyon."
   

• Continue to Douz, the “gateway to the Sahara,” for visits to the fossilized dunes and an introduction to the traditional palm grove irrigation systems.
   

• Lunch in Douz.
   

• Drive south to the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, where you’ll have time to explore and optionally swim in the natural 32°C hot spring.
   

• Optional activities (payable on-site):
  
  – Camel ride: €15/hour
  – Quad ride: €30/hour
   

• Transfer by 4x4 across a 20 km desert track to Zmela Saharan Camp.
   

• Enjoy the sunset over the dunes and attend a traditional sand-baked bread demonstration.
   

• Dinner at the Saharan restaurant and overnight stay in private desert tents (double occupancy).

Day 3 – Troglodyte villages and lunar landscapes
 

• Breakfast and free time to enjoy the calm of the desert.
   

• Depart for Matmata via the scenic Berber village of Tamezret.
   

• Visit a traditional troglodyte house in Matmata and discover the region’s striking lunar terrain.
   

• Lunch with a local family in Tamezret.
   

• Return journey and drop-off at your accommodation in Tozeur in the late afternoon.
