TREKS THE TUNISIAN SAHARA DESERT
These desert treks are open from October to May.
Desert treks are closed in summer for several reasons: Extreme weather conditions: In summer, temperatures in the desert can reach extremely high levels, often exceeding 40°C or more. These temperatures make trekking conditions very difficult and even dangerous for hikers, with an increased risk of dehydration, heat stroke and exhaustion. Increased risk of sunstroke: Prolonged exposure to the sun in high temperatures can lead to cases of sunstroke, even for experienced hikers. Symptoms can include headaches, nausea, dizziness and even severe sunburn. Limited Water Availability: In summer, water sources in the desert may be scarce or completely dry up due to the intense heat. This can pose a problem for hikers who rely on these sources for drinking water. Increased risk of venomous animal attacks: In summer, snakes and other venomous animals may be more active in the desert, increasing the risk of attacks for hikers.
